Cultural Heritage Under Attack in Odesa
On June 20, a nighttime drone strike by Russia resulted in damage to cultural heritage sites in Odesa.
This was reported by the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine.
A significant architectural monument, a residential complex on Seminarska Street, 4, suffered extensive damage. The building, constructed between 1912 and 1913 according to the design of architect Y.M. Ponomarenko, was impacted by a fire caused by a drone strike.
Additionally, a historic building from the early 20th century, a former brewery on French Boulevard, was also damaged. The shockwave shattered windows and doors of the structure.
Russian attacks continue to obliterate the historical memory of Ukrainian cities, their cultural identity, and architectural heritage.
We are documenting all instances of attacks on cultural heritage for future international investigations and accountability of the aggressor.
