New Developments in Prisoner Exchange: Returning Wounded Defenders
Another significant stage of the prisoner exchange has occurred in Ukraine, focusing on the severely wounded and critically ill. According to agreements reached in Istanbul, the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, under the directive of the President, has returned a new group of defenders from Russian captivity who require urgent medical attention.
The returned individuals include servicemen from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, representing various branches such as the Navy, Ground Forces, Territorial Defense, Airborne Forces, Unmanned Systems Forces, as well as the Border Guard and National Guard.
All of today's released defenders are from the ranks of soldiers and sergeants.
Among the freed are the defenders of Mariupol, who had been held captive since 2022.
Each of the released individuals suffers from serious injuries or medical conditions, including epilepsy, hypertension, ischemic heart disease, vision problems, musculoskeletal disorders, hernias, and chronic digestive system diseases. Many of the released have experienced significant weight loss.
The returned defenders will be taken to medical centers for examinations and further treatment. They will receive necessary assistance, have their documents restored, and be compensated for their time in captivity.
The exchange process continues in accordance with the agreements made in Istanbul. The exact number of released individuals will be announced after all stages of the exchange are completed.
The Coordination Headquarters continues its work. We are dedicated to bringing everyone home!
