Release of Seriously Ill Defenders: A New Exchange Stage

19 June 2025

Today marked another stage in the prisoner exchange process, resulting in the release of a group of seriously ill defenders from Russian captivity. This exchange was made possible by the agreements reached in Istanbul.

The returning servicemen include representatives from various branches of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, such as the Naval Forces and Airborne Assault Troops.

Each released defender is suffering from severe medical conditions caused by injuries and the circumstances of captivity. Many experience significant weight loss, vision problems, and cardiovascular diseases.

The majority of these soldiers spent over three years in captivity, with a significant number captured during the defense of Mariupol.

All released individuals are from the ranks of private and sergeant levels, having fought in various regions including Donetsk, Luhansk, and Kherson.

Upon their release, the defenders will undergo medical examinations and receive necessary assistance for physical and psychological rehabilitation.

The Coordination Headquarters continues to work on the next stages of prisoner exchanges.

Glory to Ukraine!
