Release of Heroes: A New Stage in the Prisoner Exchange

12 June 2025

Today marked a new stage in the prisoner exchange, during which a group of severely wounded defenders was freed from Russian captivity.

The Coordination Headquarters, tasked with handling the exchange, successfully returned home the heroes who just emerged from captivity.

Among those returned are servicemen from various branches of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including Airborne Forces and Naval Forces, as well as representatives from the border guard.

Among the released are soldiers who had been in captivity for over three years, including defenders of Mariupol. All released are men holding ranks from private to sergeant.

Some of them were considered missing in action.

The heroes returning fought on the fronts of Donetsk, Kherson, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Luhansk regions.

The freed defenders will undergo necessary medical examinations and receive assistance for physical and psychological rehabilitation.

This exchange is part of a broader program for military personnel under the age of 25, as well as severely wounded and gravely ill individuals.

The Coordination Headquarters continues its work, and the next stages of releasing Ukrainian heroes are forthcoming.

We will not rest until we bring everyone home!

Glory to Ukraine!
