Veterans' Sports: New Opportunities for Reintegration

19 January 2026

Adaptive sports serve as a crucial tool for helping veterans reintegrate into civilian life as well as for their physical and psychological socialization.
In the Peresyp district of Odesa, the first pickleball training session was held for veterans and their spouses. The event also saw participation from representatives of the local veterans' affairs department.
Pickleball combines elements of tennis and badminton and is renowned for its high inclusivity. This sport is open to individuals of all physical fitness levels.
The training was conducted by veteran Mykhailo Zimin, who proposed the inclusion of pickleball in rehabilitation activities.
“We continue to support initiatives aimed at developing veteran policies in close cooperation with the community and veterans themselves,” noted Vladimir Ermakov, director of the veterans' affairs department.
