Nikita Sheremet Wins Silver at European Swimming Championships

09 December 2025

On the final competitive day of the 2025 European Championships, Ukraine was represented by a single finalist - in the 50-meter freestyle event.

The competition featured 18-year-old Nikita Sheremet, a trainee from the Odesa SDYUSSHOR «Dynamo» swimming school, who made his debut in international adult competitions.

In the final, Sheremet clocked a time of 20.81 seconds, breaking the Ukrainian record and also setting a new world junior record. This achievement earned him the silver medal at Euro-2025 in short-course swimming, tying for second place with Olympic medalist Maxime Grousse (France).

Throughout the European Championships, Nikita also set two additional junior records for Ukraine: in the 4x50 m relay and in the 100 m freestyle event. Nikita Sheremet brought Ukraine its first medal in the 50-meter freestyle in 12 years at the Euro short-course swimming championships.

He is coached by trainers Alla Timofeeva and Aleksandra Kurbanova.
