Tribute to Maxim Ustimenko - Hero of Ukraine
The celebrated pilot defending Ukraine, Maxim Ustimenko, became a hero following his death.
On July 3, a farewell ceremony for Maxim Ustimenko, the fallen F-16 pilot, took place at St. Michael's Cathedral and Independence Square in Kyiv.
He graduated from the Kharkiv National Air Force University. Alongside him were Andriy Pilyshchykov and Oleksii Mesi, who also lost their lives in combat.
Maxim held the rank of lieutenant colonel and was a first-class pilot.
In the early days of the war, he repelled enemy attacks as part of the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade, later becoming part of the legendary Ghost of Kyiv.
“Maxim was exceptional. He expertly piloted the MiG-29 and destroyed aerial targets. He was the first to shoot down two cruise missiles near Obukhiv,” the Air Command noted.
Maxim flew four different types of aircraft.
“F-16s are entrusted to only the best pilots like Maxim, who possess combat experience and excellent skills,” emphasized Yuriy Ihnat.
Sadly, on June 29, during an enemy attack, Maxim was killed while destroying seven aerial targets.
He sacrificed his life to steer the aircraft to safety.
Posthumously, he was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine. He is survived by his parents, brother, wife, and son.
