Illegal Logging Discovered in Bereziv District
Law enforcement officials uncovered illegal logging activities in the Bereziv district, where a father was arrested alongside his son. The charges involve not only the logging but also the involvement of a minor in criminal activities.
In January, during patrols, police found a 56-year-old man and his 17-year-old son engaged in cutting down trees in a forest owned by the Petrovyriv community.
It was revealed that the father had felled 51 trees, while his son assisted by keeping watch and loading the cut wood.
Police seized a vehicle, a trailer, and a chainsaw as evidence. A forensic economic examination determined that the damage to the community amounted to 68,652 hryvnias.
Based on the evidence collected by investigators, charges were filed for illegal logging causing significant harm. This crime carries a penalty of up to five years in prison. Additionally, the father was charged with involving his son in criminal activity, punishable by up to 10 years.
The indictment has been forwarded to the court, with the Bereziv district prosecutor's office supporting the charges.
Authorities urge citizens to protect nature and engage in legal wood harvesting.
