Exhibition of Planetary Beauty: Amazon and Antarctica
On April 24, an extraordinary photo exhibition about the beauty and vulnerability of our planet will open at the «Dialogues» gallery at Soborna Square, 2 in Odesa.
This was announced by the National Antarctic Scientific Center.
This joint Ukrainian-Peruvian exhibition is symbolically titled «Planet «on the grill»: vulnerable worlds of Antarctica and the Amazon». It features photographs from two extremely different ecosystems: the hot Amazonian forests and the icy Antarctica.
The exhibition consists of 36 photographs displayed in pairs, as despite their differences, the Amazon and Antarctica share many commonalities: human impact on nature, vulnerable species, and stunning beauty.
The Amazonian photographs were taken by Freddy F. Ramirez, a researcher at the National University of the Peruvian Amazon, with most images captured throughout 2024.
The Antarctic photographs are by Ukrainian photographers who have worked on the icy continent between 2019 and 2024.
Scientists have reported that both types of ecosystems are undergoing irreversible changes. The record drought in the humid Amazonian forests and the melting glaciers in Antarctica are «symptoms» of the same illness — climate change.
The photographs will showcase what is happening to these ecosystems and how local plants and animals are responding.
The exhibition opens on April 24 at 6:00 PM at the «Dialogues» gallery, Soborna, 2.
The director of the National Antarctic Scientific Center, Yevhen Dykyi, will participate in the opening.
The venue is located in a basement, thus providing a level of protection.
The exhibition will run until May 3. Admission is free.
