Winter Fishing Regulations in Odesa Region
Starting from November 1, fishing in wintering holes in the Odesa region is prohibited to protect aquatic resources during the winter period.
A wintering hole is a designated area on the bottom of water bodies where fish gather for winter. The boundaries are defined according to the fishing regulations in the Black Sea basin.
It is forbidden in wintering holes to:
- engage in any commercial fishing;
- participate in recreational or sport fishing, even from the shore;
- use vehicles or motor boats.
According to paragraph 4 subparagraph 3 of Section IV of the Recreational Fishing Rules, during the ice cover, it is prohibited to use fishing gear with hooks if the distance between the shank and the tip exceeds 10 mm.
Violations can result in fines ranging from 34 to 680 UAH with damage reimbursement. For significant harm, criminal responsibility is envisaged, with fines from 17,000 to 85,000 UAH or imprisonment for up to three years.
The Odesa Fish Protection Patrol urges compliance with the law. Report any violations to the hotline: (098) 798-47-93.
