Switching to Winter Time in Ukraine: What You Need to Know

On the night of October 26 to 27, Ukrainians switched to winter time, adjusting their clocks back by one hour at 4 AM. This effectively extended the day by an hour.

The practice of switching between summer and winter time originated in Great Britain in 1908, aimed at saving electricity and optimizing its distribution throughout the day.
In Ukraine, the clock changes occur on the last Sunday of October and March, as regulated by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine's resolution from May 13, 1996, No. 509 concerning the calculation of time.

On July 16, 2024, the Verkhovna Rada passed bill No. 4201, abolishing the transition to winter time. According to this legislation, a single Kyiv time – UTC+2 – will be established in Ukraine. Therefore, in 2024, Ukrainians will turn their clocks back for the last time, and starting from 2025, no transition to summer time is expected. However, this law has not yet been signed by President Volodymyr Zelensky.
