Withdrawal of 10 Kopecks Coins from Circulation in Ukraine
The National Bank of Ukraine has decided to withdraw 10 kopecks coins from cash circulation. However, these coins will remain a legal means of payment. This was announced by the representatives of the NBU.
Retail networks, banks, and service sector businesses will continue to accept 10 kopecks coins for all financial transactions. Citizens are not required to exchange or return them.
Starting October 1, the NBU will cease minting new 10 kopecks coins and will stop supplying banks with them. Once they reach the banks, these coins will be withdrawn and sent to the NBU for further processing and disposal.
“Considering the large volume of 10 kopecks coins in circulation and the decrease in demand, we have decided to gradually withdraw them, which will help save costs on production and handling of these coins,” the NBU stated.
It is worth noting that 1, 2, and 5 kopecks coins were withdrawn from circulation on October 1, 2019, and 25 kopecks coins were withdrawn on October 1, 2020. After the withdrawal of 10 kopecks coins, the smallest coin left in Ukraine will be 50 kopecks.
