Government's New Initiative to Simplify Access to Open Data

The Ukrainian government has approved a new regulation aimed at simplifying access to open data by creating a centralized portal.

This was announced by the Ministry of Digital Transformation.

«Open data are information collected and stored by government authorities, made available to everyone in a convenient format, without personal or confidential details. This can include data on budgets, transportation, education, healthcare, or even business registries. From now on, the most important data that holds public value will be compiled in a new unified list,» the statement reads.

It is emphasized that this will enable citizens, businesses, and NGOs to find the necessary information more quickly and use it for analytics, service creation, or monitoring government activities.

The updated rules will also assist government agencies in working with data more effectively. They will receive clear guidelines on uploading information to the Unified Open Data Portal. This will make data more accessible to the public while reducing the potential for abuse by officials.

Previously, it was reported that the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, YouControl, and the NGO «Association of Open Data» (AOD) have signed a tripartite memorandum for cooperation in the fields of statistics, analytics, and digitalization.
