New Opportunities for Danube Ports: Cooperation with the European Commission
A significant meeting took place in Izmail between representatives of the State Enterprise «Administration of Sea Ports of Ukraine» and a delegation from the European Commission on Mobility and Transport (MOVE) along with the Danube Commission.
In attendance were the head of the European Commission's «Solidarity Routes» team, Alan Baron, European Commission Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport representative Ina Miskulin, and Danube Commission expert Antonio Stoyan.
The main topic of discussion was navigation safety in the Black Sea and Danube. The parties addressed the operation of the Ukrainian mouth «Bystre» and the Romanian Sulina canal, as well as the mechanisms to be included in the Rapid Response Plan for unforeseen situations currently being developed in collaboration with the European Commission.
Special attention was given to the potential for increasing cargo turnover in Danube ports and the development of port infrastructure.
The Ukrainian side expressed gratitude to the European and Danube Commissions for their prompt support following the incident involving the vessel «Ingulskiy» in the approach channel of the «Bystre» mouth. The AMPU emphasized the importance of ongoing cooperation with international partners that enables effective responses to challenges, maintains navigation stability, and develops port infrastructure amidst wartime conditions.
As a result of the meeting, the parties confirmed their joint interest in developing the infrastructure of the Danube region and agreed to continue regular dialogue on navigation safety and transportation route optimization.
