New Remote Medical Examination Process for Military Personnel
A new experimental project has been launched in Ukraine, allowing military personnel to undergo medical examinations remotely. This applies to those receiving treatment outside the country and unable to return due to health issues.
The government has made the decision, as announced by representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Health.
The changes will affect military personnel who have been receiving treatment abroad for over a year. All servicemen, including civil protection and police affected by the war, will be able to undergo remote medical examinations.
The government decree also specifies the diseases for which remote examinations are possible. In particular, this includes:
- malignant tumors;
- eye diseases;
- head injuries;
- spinal cord injuries;
- internal organ injuries;
- extremity injuries;
- burns.
How will the remote examination process work?
Initially, the serviceman or their authorized representative must submit documents from a medical institution, translated into Ukrainian. These documents should contain a diagnosis according to ICD-10 or ICD-11. The documents will be forwarded to the medical commission for review within 10 days. After that, doctors will make a decision regarding fitness for service, issuing a corresponding certificate for the commander. Upon returning to Ukraine, no re-examination will be required. The project will be in effect for one year from the date of its approval. Previously, the government simplified the process for obtaining electronic referrals for the medical commission.
