Alaska Airlines Temporarily Halts Flights Due to IT System Failure

Alaska Airlines has temporarily halted all flights due to a significant failure in its IT systems, as reported by Reuters.

The issue arose around 8 PM Pacific Time, and the exact cause of the outage remains unclear.

The airline stated that the effects of this incident would be felt for some time, but further details have not been disclosed. The Federal Aviation Administration has not commented on the situation either.

This marks the second major disruption for Alaska Airlines in 2024. Previously, in April, the airline ceased operations due to a technical failure in the weight and balance system of its aircraft.

Additionally, in June, Hawaiian Airlines, a subsidiary of Alaska, reported a cyberattack that compromised parts of its IT systems, coinciding with warnings about hacker group activity that poses risks to the aviation sector.

Alaska Air Group operates 238 Boeing aircraft and 87 Embraer planes. The company has yet to comment on any potential link between the cyberattack and the recent outage.
