Investigation into Mass Fish Deaths in Odesa and Mykolaiv Regions

16 July 2025

Ecologists are investigating the contributing factors.

Mass fish deaths have been reported in the Odesa and Mykolaiv regions.

The South-Western District State Environmental Inspection has provided this information.

The focus is on the Khadzhybey and Tiligul limans. Preliminary information suggests that rising water temperatures, decreased dissolved oxygen levels, algae decay, and hydrogen sulfide release from the bottom may be responsible for the fish deaths.

Experts are collecting water samples for laboratory analysis.

The inspection has stated that the situation is being monitored, and further developments will be reported later.
