Rare Ducklings Spotted at Tuzlivski Limans National Park
At Tuzlivski Limans National Park, rare grey ducklings have been spotted, which are protected and listed in the Red Book of Ukraine. This is a remarkable occurrence, as they are quite elusive.
This news was shared by ecologist Ivan Rusev on his Facebook page.
Grey Ducklings at the National Park
According to him, seven pairs of grey ducks — Anas strepera — have been observed on one of the limans, which have already hatched their ducklings. These birds are rare in our fauna and are legally protected.
"Currently, we have 7 pairs with ducklings of this species. They are very cautious birds, making it difficult to take a picture. The mother duck quickly hid, and the little ones fled and concealed themselves in the reeds.", — wrote the ecologist.
About the Grey Duck
The grey duck is a waterfowl with a modest yet noble coloration. Males have a grey body with a fine pattern, a black rear, and a white wing patch visible in flight. Females resemble the common mallard, but are lighter with a less pronounced pattern. The ducklings are fluffy and brownish-yellow.
These ducks are extremely skittish. When danger approaches, they quickly hide in the grass or reeds.
