New Support Program for First Graders

07 July 2025

The Ukrainian government, at the initiative of the President, is introducing a social payment called «Schoolchild Package». Families sending their children to first grade will receive financial assistance of 5,000 hryvnias.

This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a government meeting.

«This will be a financial support of 5,000 hryvnias. The payment is intended for those sending their children to first grade in a traditional format,» explained Shmyhal.

According to him, the funds can be used to purchase stationery, books, children's clothing, and footwear — everything necessary for preparing a child for school.

Applications for the funds can be submitted via the «Dii'a» app or portal.

The Prime Minister noted that the process will be «convenient and straightforward». The funds can only be spent cashless, using a card in stores that sell appropriate school supplies.

He also emphasized that this payment will not affect the receipt of subsidies or other forms of social assistance.

«The Ministry of Social Policy will communicate all the details, including the start of the application process,» added Shmyhal.

The head of government noted that the launch of the «Schoolchild Package» is part of broader innovations aimed at creating conditions for Ukrainians to continue living and working in Ukraine.

As reported, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated that the government is developing a comprehensive social support system for families with children that will cover all stages — from pregnancy to the child's coming of age. The new model aims to replace fragmented programs with a cohesive strategy that includes medical, social, and educational assistance.
