Summer Flowers Beautify Odessa
Landscapers from the Municipal Enterprise «Miskzelentrest» in Odessa have started the planting of summer flowers. The floral arrangements will include salvias, geraniums, begonias, petunias, ageratum, tagetes, and chlorophytum.
The first summer flowers have already adorned part of the Birzhova Square and the flowerbeds near the Primorska District Administration, replacing the spring flowers. This year, it is planned to plant around 350,000 summer flowers.
According to representatives of the Municipal Enterprise «Miskzelentrest», the summer flowers will be planted in all city districts where the spring flowers are already fading.
Today, landscapers also planted 72 shrubs.
Perennial plants such as junipers, hibiscus, and broom are being planted with a closed root system (root ball) for better survival in the urban environment.
Young plants have beautified the median strip on Nebesna Sotnia Avenue and at the corner of Prince Yaroslav the Wise Avenue.

All flower seedlings (summer and spring), as well as flowers for vertical landscaping (100-150 hanging pots), are grown in greenhouses at the «Rose» section. Annually, around 1 million plants are cultivated here (200-250 thousand spring flowers, 250 thousand potted flowering plants, and approximately 500 thousand other seedlings) along with about 11 thousand ornamental leafy trees.
Every year, landscapers plant about 40 thousand perennial plants (chrysanthemums, miscanthus, yucca, hydrangeas, irises, euonymus, etc.), sourced from the enterprise's greenhouses.
Starting in September, preparations for the next year's greenhouses take place. On 5 hectares of land at the «Rose» section, there are 4,000 sq. m of greenhouse complex, 2,000 sq. m of hotbeds, and a utility yard. This operation is managed by 29 landscapers and 3 engineering technicians.
Traditionally, the first spring flowers (daisies, violas, forget-me-nots, and selene) adorn Odessa in early April, followed by summer flowers such as salvias, petunias, primroses, tagetes, and ageratum.
Furthermore, the Municipal Enterprise «Miskzelentrest» manages over 547.71 hectares of land, which includes 16 parks, 79 squares, 7 boulevards, and 122 other green zones.
