Enhancing Accessibility in Odesa: New Initiatives
Today, an important working meeting took place dedicated to the «Movement Without Barriers» project organized by the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine. This meeting involved Kyiv experts, representatives of municipal and regional structures, as well as members of the city Council on Accessibility. The session was chaired by Oleksandr Filatov, the First Deputy Mayor of Odesa.
Mayor Hennadii Trukhanov previously highlighted that Odesa is one of 15 pilot cities participating in the «Movement Without Barriers» flagship project, sponsored by the First Lady Olena Zelenska.
As part of this project, which is funded by city, regional, and state budgets, a pedestrian inclusive route is planned in the Peresyp district of Odesa, which will connect social and infrastructure facilities with the «North-South» tram line.
This route stretches along the Prince Volodymyr Great Avenue from the intersection with Kishynivska Street to the intersection with Ak. Zabolotny Street and further to the Odesa Regional Clinical Hospital, including access to the Administrative Services Center on David Oistrakh Street.
On this route, the installation of barrier-free elements is planned: pedestrian paths, ramps, adapted public transport stops, parking spaces, and information systems that will enable barrier-free movement for people with disabilities.
Currently, the project work is being coordinated with a team of experts, which includes direct inspections of the reconstruction sites.
Additionally, a working group involving Kyiv experts visited the Odesa coast to review the progress of works related to the establishment of an inclusive beach and various social infrastructure facilities.
