Palliative Care for Children in Odesa

15 November 2025

The Odesa Specialized Children’s Home No. 1 hosts a palliative care unit that offers medical assistance to children suffering from severe life-limiting illnesses.

The youngest child in the unit is only 1 year and 3 months old, while the oldest is 15. Most of these children have congenital nervous system disorders, such as cerebral palsy.

The unit is equipped with state-of-the-art medical devices funded by the city budget with the support of donors.

Children receive expensive treatments and specialized enteral nutrition free of charge, living in comfortable conditions surrounded by the attention and care of the staff.

In addition to palliative care, the Children’s Home also provides opportunities for medical rehabilitation for the kids.

This week, representatives of the Kyiv District Administration, Compassion Medical (USA), and the “House of Prayer” Baptist Church visited the facility.

During the meeting, they discussed the current needs of the institution and reached an agreement to assist in acquiring medical equipment that will significantly enhance the care for children and ease the workload of the staff.
