Emergency Home Birth: Woman Delivers with Medical Assistance

12 July 2025

In the village of Pryamobalka in the Bolgrad district of Odesa region, a woman rushed to deliver at home when labor began unexpectedly — she had to give birth with the ambulance team.

This was reported by the press service of the Center for Emergency Medical Assistance and Disaster Medicine.

“Upon arrival, we realized that the delivery was already underway, and there was no possibility to transport the patient to the maternity hospital. The woman gave birth at home, in front of her family, under simple rural conditions. The situation was complicated: the baby was in a breech position (feet first). This is one of the riskiest scenarios in non-hospital settings,” said paramedic Tamara Dacheva.

The birth took place right in the house. The newborn girl appeared without any signs of breathing. Her skin was cyanotic, and her heartbeat was weak. Resuscitation of the newborn began.

The medical team performed airway suction, bag-mask ventilation, tactile stimulation, and oxygen therapy. After a few critical minutes, the baby took her first breath, a cry was heard, her skin turned pink, and breathing was restored.

The mother and her newborn daughter were transported to the Artsyz Central District Hospital, and both are in stable condition.
