Revolutionary Connectivity: Kyivstar Trials Direct to Cell Technology

27 September 2025

Kyivstar, the largest mobile operator in Ukraine, is launching trials for a new Direct to Cell technology aimed at its subscribers. Initially, SMS messaging will be tested, and anyone interested can register.
The testing phase will run from October to November 2025, with the technology's implementation scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025. This will allow users to send and receive messages via satellite communication. Later, Kyivstar plans to offer mobile internet and voice services through VoLTE.
The operator emphasizes that during the testing phase, Direct to Cell will be available at no additional charge. Currently, the technology is accessible only on Android smartphones, as Kyivstar awaits confirmation from Apple.
It is important to note that Direct to Cell will only function in open spaces.
As a reminder, Direct to Cell is a Starlink technology that connects your smartphone to satellites acting as mobile communication base stations in space. This ensures connectivity even in areas where terrestrial signals do not reach.
