New Play Unveiled at Odesa Theater
The Odesa Academic Musical and Dramatic Theater named after Vasylko proudly announces the premiere of its latest play "Hello, Monster!", directed by Kyiv's Slava Zhila. This romantic-mystical comedy is adapted from the Italian play "The Blue Monster" by Carlo Gozzi, which has been translated into Ukrainian for the first time.
This two-act performance explores deep human emotions, delving into themes of power and illusions in a world where fears appear to be mere bad dreams.
"We have translated this classic work into Ukrainian for the first time, thanks to the suggestion of our director Yuliya Pyvovarova," noted director Slava Zhila. "I wanted to create something Italian for Odesa, and I hope we achieved that with our team."
The story unfolds in Nanjing, where intrigues and rumors overshadow true love. The monarch remains unaware of his wife's affairs with many, while townsfolk suffer from monsters. Two lovers, a princess and a crown heir, face magical trials to save their kingdom.
The director also emphasized that the play examines themes of power and responsibility, exploring how people often confuse true love with other feelings, using elements of comedy and farce.
