Drone Attack on Odesa: Consequences and Responses
On the night of February 4th, the Odesa region was once again subjected to a massive attack by the Russian army using strike drones. This resulted in damage to energy infrastructure and left four people injured.
The head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Oleg Kiper, reported that the drone strikes caused damage to the energy system in the regional center. Currently, emergency power outages are in effect in parts of the city. Utility services are engaged in starting generators to restore critical infrastructure, including heating plants. Additional resilience points are being set up in addition to the existing 425. Furthermore, two private houses and a business center were damaged due to falling debris and shockwaves.
Three individuals sustained shrapnel wounds and fractures, and they were transported to medical facilities in moderate condition. Another person, who was in the business center during the attack, suffered a concussion.
"All relevant services are working to mitigate the aftermath of the attack. Law enforcement is documenting yet another crime by the Russians against the civilian population of Odesa," Kiper stated.
The Odesa regional prosecutor's office announced that they have initiated a pre-trial investigation into the commission of war crimes (Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). According to the investigation, the Russian armed forces attacked Odesa with drones, likely of the Shahed-136 type, with the exact number being determined.
"Fires broke out at several addresses, which firefighters managed to extinguish promptly. The difficulty in extinguishing the fire was due to repeated air raid alerts. Psychologists from the State Emergency Service worked with local residents," the SES reported, noting that 80 rescuers and 17 pieces of equipment were involved in the aftermath response.
The city authorities also announced that tram number 18 has been temporarily suspended in Odesa. Buses are currently operating on that route. Tram number 17 will run between Kulikov Field and the 6th station of the Great Fountain with a frequency of 8-9 minutes.
