In Memory of Sergey Olizarenko
On December 18, 2024, the sports community mourns the loss of Ukrainian athlete Sergey Olizarenko, who was a participant in the 1980 Summer Olympics.
At the 1980 Olympics, Sergey competed in the 3000 meters steeplechase, where he secured 3rd place in the semifinals with a time of 8:34.2, but unfortunately, he could not participate in the final due to an Achilles tendon injury.
He was married to Olympic champion Nadia Olizarenko.
The city council of Odessa and the local sports community express their heartfelt condolences to Sergey Olizarenko's family during this difficult time.
The farewell will take place on December 21, 2024: at 10:30 AM – a memorial service at the Holy Assumption Cathedral (70 Preobrazhenska St.), at 12:00 PM - cremation at the Tairov Cemetery crematorium.
