Unbreakable Spirit: Alexandra Pascal at the Black Sea Cup

10 October 2025

The All-Ukrainian rhythmic gymnastics tournament «Black Sea Cup» took place in Odesa, featuring dozens of young athletes from across Ukraine competing for victory. A standout performance came from 9-year-old Alexandra Pascal, whose inspiring story has become a symbol of resilience.
In May 2022, the young girl was injured during a Russian missile strike on the resort town of Zatoka, becoming trapped under the rubble of a collapsed building. As a result of her injuries, her leg was amputated, but Alexandra refused to give up — with the help of a modern bionic prosthesis, she returned to training and her beloved sport.
At the tournament in Odesa, Alexandra won a gold medal. The City Council of Chornomorsk noted that her performance became a true symbol of resilience and inspired all spectators. She received thunderous applause, and judges praised not only her technique but also the strength of character she displayed on the mat.
The girl confidently stated, «My work is motivation, strength, and the path to my goals. If you think someone feels sorry for me — no. I simply move forward and do what I love».
Previously, Alexandra Pascal became the prototype for the main character in Ukraine's first inclusive children's comic.
