Sports Unite for Heroes: Tournament in Honor of 'Artan'

On August 9, Odessa became a gathering place for athletes, coaches, veterans, military personnel, and volunteers from across the country, all uniting to support the elite special forces unit 'Artan'. The event was organized by the Public Organization 'League of Professional Sambo' with the support of the Odessa City Council.

The program featured professional matches involving leading Ukrainian athletes, performances by honorary guests, veterans, artists, and a charity auction, the proceeds of which will aid 'Artan'.

"Sports shape character, love for life, and the desire to win. These qualities are evident on the front lines, where Ukrainian soldiers demonstrate daily that our nation is unbreakable. I thank the 'Artan' unit for their dedication, courage, and professionalism, and all defense forces who protect our country. Thanks to the coaches, families, and parents who raise strong and healthy youth" — emphasized Mayor Gennady Trukhanov.

In a video address to tournament participants, Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov emphasized: "Our soldiers stand honorably and victoriously. Just like our athletes. 'Artan' is the best unit that has already eliminated thousands of enemies and always accomplishes tasks at the highest level".

'Artan' is an elite unit of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, which has been carrying out the most challenging and unique operations since the first days of the full-scale invasion, including in Bakhmut, Chasiv Yar, Kharkiv region, and the Black Sea area.
