Veterans' Open Sports Training in Odesa

24 July 2025

An open sports training session focusing on veterans took place in Odesa.

The event, held at a city stadium, aimed to promote physical activity as a means of recovery and social interaction.

The main goal was to raise awareness about adaptive sports among veterans as a tool for rehabilitation and mental well-being.

Participants had the opportunity to engage in various activities, including:

  • wheelchair basketball,
  • crafting with air-dry clay,
  • board games and quizzes related to mental health.

Adaptive sports not only enhance physical fitness but also pave the way for rejoining active life among peers.

Anna Velichko, regional coordinator of the national mental health program “How are you?” in Odesa, attended the event and emphasized the significance of such initiatives in fostering mental health culture.

The event was organized by the NGO “Free Warriors” with financial support from the International Organization for Migration (IOM Ukraine) as part of the national mental health program “How are you?”.

The development and implementation of the program is overseen by the Coordination Center of the Cabinet of Ministers and the World Health Organization.
