Ukrainian Karate Achievements Shine at World Championship
From October 9 to 13, the World Championship for cadets, juniors, and youth took place in Lido di Jesolo, Italy. This tournament, held near Venice, gathered over 2,000 young athletes from 117 countries, marking a new record.
The Ukrainian team featured 38 competitors representing 17 clubs from 9 regions, including 8 from Odesa.
Fifteen-year-old Odesa karateka Maksym Vechnikov (Royal Team, coaches – Volodymyr Zaretsky and Oleksiy Konovalov) emerged as the champion in the cadet category up to 52 kg.
Maksym's gold medal at the world championship adds to his silver from the European championship he won in February of this year.
This victory marks the fourth medal (second gold and first in the cadet category) for athletes from the Odesa region in the history of youth world championships.
