Mental Health Initiatives in Odesa Schools

01 October 2024

Throughout September, educational institutions under communal ownership in Odesa conducted a series of activities as part of the nationwide mental health program «How are you?».

The activities aimed to enhance the mental well-being of participants in the educational process.

Specifically, a thematic mental health week titled «To live happily, we must be friends!» was organized for students, along with psychological exercises and emotional activities, quests «Smiling towards the Land of Knowledge», and lessons on «How to cope with fear during air alerts». Students learned techniques to reduce stress and emotional tension.

Additionally, a competition for social videos was held for students titled «The Meaning of Life and My Place in It», along with dance flash mobs during «Olympic Week», workshops, and open discussions.

Teachers participated in roundtable discussions on «What is Mental Health and How to Maintain It?», meetings with psychologists on «Children's Mental Health During War», sessions under the «Safe Space» program, and various seminars and lectures. These events facilitated discussions on approaches to support students during this challenging time.

Consultations and practical sessions for parents regarding supporting children during the war were also conducted.

Moreover, general school events were held. Informational stands with QR codes for the «How are you?» program were set up in accessible locations.

To promote mental health, reduce stress, and develop resilience and self-esteem, school actions titled «Mood Smile», «Hugs», online psychological classes, and individual consultations for all participants of the educational process were organized.
