22 December 2022

How is English proficiency connected to the level of digital literacy among Ukrainians?

Recent studies show that 51% of the adult population in Ukraine possesses at least basic knowledge of English, while 23% have advanced proficiency. There is a direct correlation between English language skills and income levels. Among high-income individuals, 52% are proficient in English, whereas this figure drops to only 12% for those with low incomes.

Recently, the Ministry of Digital Transformation released the results of a study on digital literacy among Ukrainians for 2023, emphasizing the relationship between digital skills and English proficiency. It was found that English proficiency is one of the indicators of overall life satisfaction. For instance, 60.4% of Ukrainians with no digital skills also lack English language knowledge.

English serves as a crucial tool for enhancing digital skills and opens up new opportunities. Platforms like Empower and Promova are available to Ukrainians, thanks to the national language program Future Perfect.
