New Transport Corridor Proposal Between Greece and Ukraine
The Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, has put forward the idea of a "transport corridor connecting the Greek port of Alexandroupolis with Odessa, traversing through Romania and Bulgaria.
As reported by "Interfax-Ukraine", this statement was made during the 4th summit of "Ukraine-Southeast Europe" held on June 11 in Odessa.
Mitsotakis suggested creating a corridor that links the Greek port of Alexandroupolis with Odessa via the Bulgarian city of Varna and the Romanian port of Constanta. The total length of the route would be approximately 700 km.
"I hope that Odessa will be at one end of an ambitious project for developing connectivity, starting from the port of Alexandroupolis, passing through Varna, Constanta, and finally reaching Odessa. This project could be proposed for EU funding" – said the Greek Prime Minister.
In his view, this could be a multifaceted project, including railway lines, power lines, and pipelines, with transport along this route potentially being faster than maritime transport.
According to him, the project would provide "a clear and tangible vision of how Ukraine's integration into the EU can truly change the lives of Ukrainians".
