Urgent Call: Fate of Sailors from the 'Stanislav' Boat

11 August 2025

The Ukrainian Navy is calling on all available resources, including the support of international organizations, to determine the fate of four sailors from the "Stanislav" boat, which sank near Snake Island due to a Russian missile strike. The families of the missing sailors have been seeking help from the public for 39 months.

According to a post from the Ukrainian Navy on social media, attention must be drawn to those who heroically fought for the liberation of Snake Island on May 7, 2022 - a key stronghold in the Black Sea. During the battle, the boat sank after being hit by an enemy missile, and while part of the crew was rescued, the fate of four military sailors remains unknown.

These are Oleksandr Sukhorukov, Volodymyr Lyashko, Serhiy Tukmachov, and Vladyslav Kostiuk, whose names the Navy has published along with photos of the missing sailors. The relatives hold onto hope for their return from captivity, but international intervention is necessary for this to happen.

"We need to raise awareness. Apply pressure. Influence international organizations and partners. We must use every tool available to bring our guys back," the Navy stated.

In order to utilize the opportunity for the sailors' return, the terrorist state must confirm all captives. The Navy is calling on the public and the international community to intensify pressure on Russia to clarify the fate of the missing military personnel.

In June, a farewell took place in Odesa for Senior Sailor Andrii Sitiavin, who died the same day near Snake Island during a Russian missile attack on the "Stanislav" boat. The sailor's body was recovered only in 2024 after DNA testing.

The "Stanislav" boat was on a combat mission to liberate Snake Island and fell victim to a missile attack. The vessel sank, and five crew members, including Sitiavin, went missing.
