A New Era for Odesa's Art Scene

15 July 2025

Odesa's artist Stepan Ryabchenko has been selected as a member of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, becoming the youngest member and the sole representative from Odesa.

This event marks a significant milestone not only for the artist himself but for the entire cultural community of Odesa.

Stepan's inclusion in the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine symbolizes the recognition of digital art as a vital component of the contemporary artistic process.

Born in 1987, Stepan Ryabchenko is a new generation artist working at the intersection of digital art, conceptual architecture, sculpture, light installations, graphics, and photography, aiming for innovative forms of artistic thought and visual experimentation.

His work is a vast artistic system where fictional creatures, metaphysical landscapes, and virtual architecture create autonomous worlds governed by internal laws. In these worlds, the boundaries between the real and the imaginary, organic and digital, myth and technology dissolve.

His creations have been exhibited in leading art institutions in Ukraine, including the National Art Museum, the Art Arsenal, the Ukrainian House, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Odesa, and many more.

Stepan Ryabchenko has received numerous accolades that underscore his contribution to contemporary art at both national and international levels. In 2021, he was included in the prestigious list of the 15 best digital artists in the world by Electric Artefacts (UK). Other achievements include the “Art Act” award (2010), participation in the Kyiv Sculpture Project (2012), recognition in Forbes Ukraine: 30 Under 30 (2015), winning a competition for creating a sculptural symbol for Odesa International Airport (2019), and reaching the finals of the Tampa International Airport Public Art Project (USA, 2020). In 2022, Ryabchenko was awarded the Mykhailo Bozhi Prize in the category of “Monumental Art.”

We are proud of our Odesa artist's accomplishments!
