Eternal Tribute to a Hero from Odesa
This news has brought deep sorrow to the hearts of the people of Odesa. During a combat mission, Kostyantyn Oborin, a remarkable veteran of the Afghan war, an active participant in the struggle for Ukraine's independence, the director of the «Odesa» aviation club, a volunteer, mentor, and a person with a big heart, lost his life.
This tragic event was confirmed by Odesa's mayor, Hennadiy Trukhanov, in his Telegram channel.
Kostyantyn went through the horrors of Afghanistan but did not become bitter. Instead, he dedicated his life to serving and supporting others, becoming a symbol of hope and rehabilitation for many veterans, engaging them in parachuting and offering sincere attention. His saying — «the air heals» — became a lifeline for many.
In 2014, risking his life, Kostyantyn rescued 29 Ukrainian soldiers from captivity. In 2022, soaring above Odesa, he fulfilled the last wish of his student, Hero of Ukraine Vladyslav Buvalkin, scattering his ashes over their hometown. That same year, Kostyantyn was awarded the Order of Hryhorii Marazli III degree.
Kostyantyn was not just a soldier; he was a friend, a mentor, a volunteer, and a role model. We have known each other since the '90s, and our paths crossed many times. We often discussed veteran policies, military support, rehabilitation, and the honoring of those who defend Ukraine. His experience and sincerity were invaluable.
Recently, we had seen little of each other, yet he continued to undertake combat missions at 63 years old. He died, remaining loyal to his oath, his comrades, and Ukraine.
His death is a painful loss for all of Odesa, for those who knew him and regarded him as their light and support.
I extend my sincere condolences to the family, friends, and all who knew Kostyantyn. His name will live on in memory, in the sky, and in our hearts.
