Strengthening Ties Between Odessa and Bristol

18 April 2025

The Mayor of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, held an online meeting with Mr. Tony Dyer, the head of the Bristol City Council in the United Kingdom.

During their conversation, they explored opportunities for collaboration, especially in the fields of cinema and UNESCO initiatives.

Bristol is well-known for its vibrant arts scene and film industry. Since 2017, the city has been part of the UNESCO Creative Cities network, having received the title of «City of Film».

«When discussing international relations, I believe they are strengthened by direct connections between municipalities, which tend to be more practical and effective. Your experience in addressing community issues and managing UNESCO sites is invaluable to us. Our team aims to learn from European and British cities, renowned for their traditions and history preservation. Your rich cultural heritage and emphasis on architecture, museums, and archives exemplify how modernity and respect for the past can coexist. We aspire to adopt such approaches to maintain our identity while progressing forward», the Mayor of Odessa noted.

Representatives from Bristol are set to visit Odessa soon to enhance their partnership and gain firsthand experience of the city's culture, history, infrastructure, and business environment.

Bristol was named the best city to live in Britain in 2014 and 2017, and in 2015, it earned the title of «European Green Capital».
