Revamping "Ukrposhta": A New Mobile Application on the Horizon

18 April 2025

The national postal operator of Ukraine, known as "Ukrposhta", is planning to revamp its mobile application with new functionalities by the end of June this year.

In an interview with Forbes Ukraine, CEO Ihor Smiliansky emphasized that the updated application is a key focus for the company's 2025 agenda.

"We aim to launch the new app by the end of the first half of the year. It will not only track parcels but also provide features for interacting with customs, displaying estimated delivery dates, confirming documents, and viewing shipping and payment histories," he explained.

The launch of the new "Ukrposhta" application was originally scheduled for 2024, but was postponed for various reasons. The old application has received low ratings in the App Store and Google Play Market. One of its major issues is the lack of notifications about parcel status. The new application is expected to allow users to redirect parcels to different branches, which currently can only be done over the phone or in post offices.

Moreover, Ihor Smiliansky noted that approximately 1 billion UAH was invested in automation in 2024. "This figure includes guarantees for five years. All funding is our own," he added.

According to him, over 90% of parcels are now delivered on time. "I gauge the effect of automation through social media. Previously, there were dozens, even hundreds of comments on my posts about how poorly "Ukrposhta" delivered. In the last two months, there have been almost none. This is the most honest indicator for me, as it cannot be faked. We have implemented full automation, and we are currently refining the IT system so that customers can see the estimated delivery date when sending their parcels," summarized Ihor Smiliansky.

Recall that in February 2025, "Ukrposhta" fully automated parcel sorting. In January 2025, the government transferred shares of the First Investment Bank, which were previously owned by Russian oligarchs, to the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development, with subsequent transfer to "Ukrposhta." This will allow the postal operator to establish its own banking institution. Previously, Ihor Smiliansky stated that after the establishment of its own bank, the capitalization of "Ukrposhta" would increase, enabling it to build an Amazon-like entity in the Ukrainian format. Additionally, it is worth noting that last year, "Ukrposhta" reported a revenue of 12.98 billion UAH, which is an 8% increase over nearly 12 billion in 2023. However, considering an annual inflation rate of 14.6%, the real growth turned into a loss, with deficits reaching 387 million UAH by the end of 2024.
