Getting a Driver's License in Ukraine: New Opportunities

Driving a vehicle opens up new possibilities for many individuals, providing freedom, independence, and the chance to learn new skills. However, becoming a driver requires not only knowledge and skills but also adherence to age requirements.

In Ukraine, there is no upper age limit for obtaining a driver's license, which allows even older individuals to become drivers if they have no medical contraindications. However, there are clearly defined minimum age requirements for training.

At the age of 16, one can begin training for categories A and A1, which cover motorcycles and mopeds. To drive trucks with trailers, one must be at least 19 years old, and for trolleybuses and trams, the minimum age is 21.

According to Ukrainian law, driving rights are granted at the following ages:

16 years – categories A1, A;
18 years – categories B1, B, C1, C;
19 years – categories BE, C1E, CE;
21 years – categories D1, D, D1E, DE, T.
Step-by-Step Guide to Obtaining a Driver's License

To become a driver, one must learn the traffic rules, which can be done independently or through an accredited driving school. After this, the candidate must pass a theoretical exam at the Ministry of Internal Affairs service center. Upon successful completion, the candidate proceeds to practical training at a driving school, followed by a practical exam at the service center.

To take the exams at the service center, the following documents are required:

passport with registration mark or ID card;
medical certificate of fitness to drive;
taxpayer identification number;
existing driver's license (if applicable).
The fee for the theoretical exam is 250 UAH, and for the practical exam, it is 420 UAH.
