Meeting to Support Agriculture in Ukraine

07 April 2025

A significant coordination meeting took place with the Program Manager of the International Center for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM) in Bari, Mr. Luigi Cavestro.

The main topic of discussion was the initiation of the project «Program to Support the Restoration of Economic Potential in Ukraine's Agro-Food Sector. Pro.UKR», which will be implemented in the Odesa region with support from AICS and CIHEAM.

The project has been developed by Italian specialists in collaboration with experts from the Odesa region and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, covering the Berezivka, Rozdilna, and Odesa districts.

The project's goal is to support small and medium-sized agricultural businesses, strengthen the presence of Ukrainian agro-food products in global markets through technological assistance and quality improvement according to European standards, and develop livestock farming. The project also includes support for irrigation system development in the Odesa region.

The core idea of the project is to provide training and establish cooperatives from small agricultural enterprises for processing agricultural products, while also fostering stable connections between Ukrainian and Italian markets.

As part of the joint project, over 9 million euros are expected to be invested in Odesa's agro-industry.

It is worth noting that the Italian Ambassador to Ukraine, Carlo Formosa, signed an agreement with CIHEAM at the end of March to launch this project.

The «Pro.UKR» project is part of broader efforts by Italy to support the recovery of Ukraine and the Odesa region, aiming to promote the economic and social resilience of the country under current challenging conditions.
