World Autism Awareness Day
Every year on April 2nd, the world celebrates World Autism Awareness Day, established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2007.
The aim is to raise public awareness and understanding of autism, draw attention to individuals with autism spectrum disorders, and improve their quality of life. A roundtable discussion titled "Children with Special Needs (Autism Spectrum) in Today's Reality" was held at the Communal Institution "Center for Rehabilitation of Individuals with Psychophysical Developmental Disabilities".
Participating in the discussion were: the Director of the Department of Labor and Social Policy of the Odesa City Council, Olena Kytainska, heads of district social protection departments, and staff from social service institutions.
Experts from the institution introduced attendees to their experiences working with children on the autism spectrum, the importance of establishing communication with these children and their parents, and the challenges related to motor control and cognitive development in preschool children with autism.
Additionally, participants were shown a musical session titled "Development of Musical Skills in Children with Autism across Age Groups".
At the conclusion of the roundtable, attendees expressed gratitude for the event's organization, the informative presentations, and suggested holding an international conference in Odesa on the relevant topics, inviting specialists from education, science, and medicine.
