Legal Action Against Driver in Accident Case

02 March 2025

The indictment has been sent to court. The driver faces restrictions on freedom and loss of driving rights.

The incident occurred in a village within the Lyman community.

During the pre-trial investigation, it was determined that a 47-year-old local resident, while driving a «Chery» car, was inattentive, did not choose a safe speed, and hit a 15-year-old girl who was crossing the road, although she could have avoided it.

As a result of the traffic accident, the child sustained injuries in the form of pelvic fractures, which, according to the forensic expert's conclusion, are classified as moderate bodily injuries.

The driver was unharmed. She was tested for intoxication — she was sober.

During the pre-trial investigation, the vehicle was placed in an impound lot and a series of expert examinations were appointed.

According to police chief Eduard Kolomiiets, having gathered sufficient evidence, including expert opinions, the police investigators charged the driver with violating traffic safety rules leading to moderate bodily harm. The investigation is complete, and the indictment under part 1 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine has been sent to court.

The offender faces up to three years of freedom restriction and up to three years of losing the right to drive.

We urge drivers to strictly adhere to traffic rules:

- in populated areas, vehicle speed should not exceed 50 km/h;

- actions or inactions of road participants should not create danger or obstacles for others;

- to ensure traffic safety, drivers must be vigilant, monitor road conditions, react appropriately to changes, and avoid distractions while driving.

Dear drivers, take care of yourselves and other road participants. Do not violate traffic rules!
