Arrest of Odessa Man for Illegal Weapon Modification
A man from Odessa has been charged under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and a preventive measure has been chosen. He faces a significant prison sentence.
The investigation and disruption of the criminal activities were conducted by the Strategic Investigations Department of the National Police in Odessa, in cooperation with the Security Service of Ukraine.
According to law enforcement sources, the 42-year-old man set up a workshop for weapon modification in his garage. He ordered models of firearms online and then, using specialized tools, modified them into actual firearms for sale.
The police documented a sale of modified firearms worth 39 thousand hryvnias. The suspect was apprehended while delivering another 'shipment' to a buyer.
Investigators conducted a total of 10 searches at the suspect's vehicle, residence, workplace, and other accessible premises, seizing various items resembling weapon models, ammunition, and tools used for modifying firearms. All items are being sent for expert examination.
Additionally, cash in both foreign and national currency was seized, which the suspect allegedly obtained from weapon sales. The origin of the funds will be determined during the investigation.
The suspect has been charged with illegal modification of firearms and illegal possession and trafficking of firearms without legal permission. The court has chosen a preventive measure of detention with the possibility of a bail of 908,400 hryvnias.
The maximum penalty he faces is seven years of imprisonment.
Investigative actions are ongoing, supervised by the Kyiv District Prosecutor's Office in Odessa.
