Arrest of Man for Drug and Ammunition Trafficking

19 March 2025

A 37-year-old man has been charged under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and is in custody. He faces up to eight years of imprisonment.

Officers from the Odessa District Police Department No. 2 discovered that a resident of the Vygodyanska community was in possession of ammunition and narcotics while seeking buyers for these items.

During operational activities, police documented how the suspect sold two grenades and a package of a plant-based narcotic, receiving 5500 hryvnias in return.

By involving the explosives unit of the regional police, investigators seized grenade bodies with fuses, which, according to preliminary assessments, are functional military munitions. Additionally, they confiscated a substance which was tested using an express test, along with cash.

Moreover, during a sanctioned search at the suspect's residence, several zip-lock bags containing similar plant material, packaging tools, and over a hundred rounds of ammunition were found. Part of the evidence was sent for expert analysis.

According to the head of the Odessa District Police Department No. 2, Andriy Donets, the offender was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and charged with illegal acquisition, possession for sale, and illegal sale of narcotic substances (part 1 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), as well as carrying, acquiring, and selling military munitions without the required legal permission (part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The court has chosen a preventive measure of detention. The offender faces up to eight years of imprisonment.

All circumstances of the crime, including the channel through which the “goods” reached the suspect, will be established during the investigation. The procedural oversight in the case is conducted by the Bilyaivka District Prosecutor's Office.
