Instructor Arrested for Bribery in Odesa Region

21 February 2025

In the Odesa region, an instructor was apprehended from one of the local territorial recruitment centers. He is suspected of corruption.

This became known on February 21 through a police announcement in Odesa.

Authorities discovered that the military officer demanded 50,000 hryvnias from a citizen he was assisting with military documentation.

"For this amount, the offender promised to influence military officials at the territorial center to issue deferral documents to the citizen, allowing him to move freely within Ukraine", — the statement says.

The police reported that the amount was later reduced to 20,000 hryvnias, and the suspect was arrested after receiving this sum. The money was seized as evidence.

The Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the defense sector of the Southern region added that the serviceman took the citizen's passport to ensure the receipt of funds:

"In January 2025, the suspect again offered the conscript his "assistance", lowering the bribe amount to 20,000 hryvnias. The citizen, forced to agree, informed the law enforcement and acted under their guidance".

The arrest took place on February 19. The man was charged under Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which carries a penalty of up to eight years in prison with property confiscation. The issue of choosing a preventive measure for the suspect is currently being resolved.
