Odessa Prepares for Heating Season: New Equipment to Reduce Energy Consumption

09 October 2024

The city of Odessa is actively preparing for the challenges of the 2024/25 heating season.

In light of ongoing threats to the country's energy system, one of the primary tasks is reducing energy consumption at enterprises.

According to the Deputy Mayor of Odessa, Hanna Pozdnyakova, most pumping units of the municipal enterprise «TMO» are significantly worn out and consume excessive amounts of electricity in the current conditions.

For this reason, ahead of the new heating season, negotiations took place between the leadership of «TMO» and the Swiss Embassy in Ukraine regarding the supply of four pumps, each with a capacity of 200 kW. It is expected that this will lead to reduced energy consumption amid shortages.

According to the signed Memorandum, the Swiss Embassy financed the acquisition of equipment worth approximately 12 million UAH.

In early October, four expected pumps arrived in Odessa. Currently, the equipment is being installed at one of the facilities of the City Heating Supply Enterprise, which serves over 100,000 consumers and more than 421 administrative buildings, including medical, educational, cultural, and religious institutions.

“These new installations are crucial for the heating supply of Odessa. By reducing energy consumption, we will be able to provide heating to consumers in the city center, which is especially important during power outages and generator operations,” said Odessa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov.

Odessa expresses its gratitude to international partners for their ongoing and comprehensive technical support for the city's critical infrastructure enterprises.
