Greek Delegation Visits Odesa City Council
On October 21, 2024, acting Odesa Mayor Oleksandr Filatov held an important meeting with a delegation from the Hellenic Republic, led by Dimitrios Skalkos, Secretary General for International Economic Relations at the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the meeting, they discussed urgent issues regarding the city, bilateral relations, and strategies for the reconstruction of Odesa amidst the armed conflict.
«We appreciate your visit. It takes great courage to come to a country at war. We highly value the support Greece provides to Ukraine, particularly to our city,» emphasized Oleksandr Filatov.
«Our visit is not an act of bravery, as true courage lies in living as you do and continuing to develop the city during wartime. We feel a moral obligation to support you,» stated Mr. Skalkos.
The Greek representatives confirmed their readiness to assist in the implementation of reconstruction projects and to support Ukraine. The work of the Greece-Ukraine Friendship Parliamentary Group, which actively promotes cooperation between the two countries, was particularly highlighted.
As a reminder, in August 2023, the city of Corfu (Greece) hosted a group of children from Odesa for a vacation. From August 28 to September 11, 2024, a group of 44 children and 5 accompanying adults from Odesa stayed at the camp of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens and all Greece (Avlon, near Athens). Currently, efforts are underway to receive humanitarian aid from Greece in the form of work clothing for the city's utility services.
