Educational Event for Holodomor Remembrance Day in Odessa

At the Odessa Museum of Genocide «Territory of Memory», a special event was held in honor of Holodomor Remembrance Day, gathering teachers of social sciences from local schools.

The event emphasized the importance of historical lessons from the genocides of the 20th century in Ukraine, highlighting their relevance in the context of the current Russian-Ukrainian war and the need for their study and re-evaluation.

Teachers were also presented with educational projects from the museum and provided guidance on teaching the tragic events of the Holodomor to students of various ages, considering the current wartime conditions in Ukraine.

City teachers discovered lesser-known aspects of the regional history of the Holodomor in Odessa through an engaging lecture rich in factual information. Specific examples illustrated the signs of genocide against Ukrainian peasantry in 1932-1933 and the Ukrainian national elite from 1930 to 1933.

Additionally, educators had the opportunity to explore the museum's exhibition «Territory of Memory», dedicated to the theme of genocides.

The event was organized as part of the educational outreach efforts for national-patriotic education of the youth, as outlined in the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Department of Education and Science of the Odessa City Council and the NGO «Odessa Center for Holocaust Studies», in partnership with the National Museum of Holodomor-Genocide (Kyiv).
