Winter Season Preparation in the City
To ensure road safety and effectively respond to winter conditions, the municipal enterprise «City Roads» is undertaking a series of measures.
Traditionally, by November, street cleaning operations are completed, and the equipment is modified for winter use. The tanks are removed from washing vehicles and replaced with sand-salt spreaders.
Winter attachments are being installed, with most vehicles outfitted with snowplows. All machinery undergoes inspection and preventive maintenance. After preparation, the special equipment will be tested on the company’s grounds.
The fleet of «City Roads» includes snow removal vehicles, sand spreaders, graders, excavators, and more. In total, 104 units of equipment and 560 workers will be involved in snow removal and ice control during the 2024-2025 fall-winter season. As of November 4, 37 units of equipment have been re-equipped and are ready for use. The machine preparation is expected to be completed by the end of November.
The company is also preparing a sand-salt mixture for anti-icing purposes. In case of worsening weather, the enterprise is stocked with 11,860 tons of reagents for road treatment.
«City Roads» has developed 17 routes for snow removal vehicles to ensure prompt clearing of roads from snow drifts and ice. Additionally, 54 routes have been designated for treating streets with reagents to reduce hazards during icy conditions.
Starting December 1, 2024, the round-the-clock duty of «City Roads» crews will commence for rapid response to worsening weather. The duty rooms are prepared, and the staff operating the equipment are provided with winter clothing.
